Campaign Coordinator for Japan

Position Objective:

To manage and coordinate PETA Asia’s many cutting-edge campaigns and work with activists in Japan in order to bring attention to animal rights issues

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Coordinate and manage a media plan and an agenda of celebrity events, campaign protests, and other campaign actions that can be taken in Japan
  • Encourage and facilitate activism across Japan by communicating with activists and encouraging them to be active in behalf of animals
  • Regularly update and maintain a database of Japanese media outlets
  • Develop and manage cutting-edge campaigns against companies and industries that abuse animals
  • Organize and attend street-theater-style protests in Japan
  • Coordinate PETA Asia’s campaigns and projects, liaising with PETA affiliates around the world in order to generate support for our campaigns
  • Work to create attention-grabbing viral videos, Web sites, and other interactive online campaigns in order to increase awareness of animal rights issues
  • Work to create provocative Japanese ad campaigns and other materials that further animal rights or push companies to change
  • Work to generate Japanese media coverage of our efforts through protests, celebrity support, and more
  • Act as a PETA spokesperson by giving interviews with local and national television outlets, radio stations, newspapers, and magazines
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor


  • Passion for fighting cruelty to animals and a commitment to PETA Asia’s objectives
  • Desire and willingness to participate in provocative campaigns
  • Thorough knowledge of animal rights issues preferred
  • Fluency in English and Japanese
  • Ability to deal patiently with the media
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Outgoing and personable manner
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask
  • Adherence to a vegetarian lifestyle
  • Ability and willingness to travel
  • Supportive position vis-à-vis PETA Asia’s philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA Asia’s positions on issues
