Celebrity Marketing and Media Coordinator

Position Objective:

To generate media coverage for PETA Australia’s campaigns, including coordinating and handling media interviews and organising news releases

Managing Director of PETA Australia

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop and make recommendations for new pitch ideas and ways to increase media coverage of PETA Australia’s campaigns, using independent judgment and discretion
  • Monitor severe weather and natural disasters nationwide (eg, fires, floods, storms) in order to prepare and route news releases and make follow-up calls well in advance regarding the safeguarding of animal companions during natural disasters
  • Pitch PETA Australia’s campaigns and events to the media and make follow-up calls, as needed
  • Prepare and manage news releases
  • Develop target lists for issue and campaign coverage
  • Develop marketing plans to reach specific audiences according to each celebrity campaign
  • Stay informed about celebrity and internet celebrity news and gossip
  • Write and coordinate web features
  • Coordinate print advertisement and video public service announcement concepts for celebrity campaigns
  • Approach celebrities and/or their management to garner support for PETA Australia’s campaigns
  • Manage celebrity campaign projects, maintaining communication between all relevant departments
  • Coordinate celebrity photo shoots and other support efforts
  • Coordinate marketing efforts at the launch of each celebrity campaign
  • Track and analyse the results of each campaign and adjust efforts accordingly
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the managing director


  • Thorough knowledge of animal rights issues and campaigns
  • Proven interest in celebrity news and gossip
  • Excellent working knowledge of Australian issues related to the job
  • Demonstrated interest in and excellent working knowledge of the internet
  • Sophisticated understanding and appreciation of creative work
  • Proven excellent project management, strategic thinking and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivation with the proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people
  • Ability and willingness to travel occasionally
