Writer for China

Position Objective:

To develop and write creative content for articles, letters, op-eds, the Web, and other projects for both in-house and external publications to help promote the goals of the organization in China

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Analyze animal rights issues in the news in China and write op-ed pieces and columns about these issues
  • Create written content that is uniquely designed for PETA Asia’s blog and accounts on various Chinese social media platforms
  • Draft reports, leaflets, and other types of correspondence
  • Prepare PETA news releases, advisories, and media alerts to go out to media in China
  • Edit other staffers’ work and writing in Chinese
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor


  • Some professional writing experience preferred, which may include writing for newspapers, magazines, other publications, or the Web
  • A thorough knowledge of animal rights issues
  • Demonstrated exceptional written communication skills in English and simplified Chinese as well as an understanding of traditional Chinese
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Proven ability to handle many tasks simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Adherence to a healthy vegan lifestyle
  • Demonstrated support for PETA’s philosophy and the ability to advocate for PETA’s positions on issues professionally
  • Commitment to the objectives of the organization
