PETA’S JEEPNEY JAMBOREE OF ‘ANIMALS’ TO WELCOME APEC LEADERS TO MANILA
** MEDIA ADVISORY **
What: With the Makati events during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting off the radar of most protesters, a “seal,” a “rat,” a “cow,” an “elephant,” and other mascots from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) will be travelling around the city in a jeepney. Why are “animals” rushing to welcome the event? PETA and Pinoy animal lovers are hopeful that animal-welfare issues will be on the agenda at the meeting and that the leaders will recognize the part that animal agriculture plays in climate change and recommend a vegan diet. PETA’s “kangaroo” will hold a sign reading, “I Am Not Leather,” while the “pig” will hold a sign in Spanish reading, “Stop Climate Change, Go Vegan.” Other animals will wave placards in various languages, including Vietnamese and Chinese.
When: Wednesday, November 18, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Where: Starting at the intersection of Ayala Avenue and Dela Costa Street and continuing along Ayala Avenue to Makati Avenue.
