Virtual Applause to Alibaba for Its Compassion!

Alibaba speaks out against exotic animal salesAs soon as we  received reports from concerned citizens that people were trying to hawk chimpanzees and other exotic animals on Alibaba.com, we contacted the web giant and explained the cruel and likely illegal nature of the exotic-animal trade. In just a matter of hours, Alibaba removed all the listings involving the sale of chimpanzees and other wild animals.

Not only is much of the exotic-animal trade illegal, it is also extremely cruel. Keeping exotic animals as “pets” usually results in tragedy—most don’t receive adequate care and suffer from malnutrition, loneliness, and the overwhelming stress of confinement to an unnatural and uncomfortable environment. Many even die from the stress of transport.

Alibaba is known for its compassion. The company has previously banned the sale of products containing bear bile, shark fins, and cat and dog fur. We invite you to report any listings that involve cruelty to animals to [email protected], as they can be removed quickly. Want to keep updated on all PETA Asia’s victories?
