Assistant to the Vice President

Position Objectives:

  • To assist the vice president with projects related to PETA Asia’s campaign work, including writing tasks and personal correspondence
  • To organize and perform campaign demonstrations within Asia
  • To assist with the documentation and logging of investigation footage for the organization
  • To work on specific projects, as assigned by the vice president, to help promote the goals of the organization

Reports to:

Vice President, PETA Asia

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Communicate on behalf of the vice president regarding campaigns, celebrity involvement, and media inquiries, and respond to inquiries (including taking calls, responding to voice mails and e-mails, and editing and managing written correspondence) with discretion and independent judgment
  • Organize, perform, and travel to demonstrations in support of PETA’s campaigns around Asia
  • Organize and maintain the vice president’s projects
  • Attend meetings with the vice president to take notes or dictation or to provide general assistance, when needed
  • Follow up on projects initiated by the vice president and see them through to completion, including liaising with other PETA affiliates
  • Handle media for PETA Asia’s projects, including sending out news releases, advisories, action alerts, and pitches for demonstrations and other events, and speak to media during demonstrations and other events
  • Perform and complete writing tasks (including draft letters, reports, and Web text)
  • Assist the vice president with completing in-house Internet forms
  • Work with PETA U.S.’ production team on organizing, editing, storing, and archiving investigation video and photo files
  • Manipulate and assemble footage, script, and other raw material to create videos that will meet PETA Asia’s needs
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the vice president

Qualifications:

  • Can be based in Australia, the U.S. (Hawaii), or anywhere in Asia but Philippine citizen or resident based in the Philippines is preferred
  • Excellent writing skills, especially in composing and editing letters
  • Thorough knowledge of animal rights issues and PETA campaigns
  • Demonstrated exceptional verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Professional appearance and adherence to a vegan lifestyle
  • Commitment to the objectives of the organization
  • Willingness to engage in some outdoor work
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally
  • Willingness and ability to be on 24-hour emergency call, as needed
