A Slam Dunk! Dunkin’ Philippines Nabs PETA Asia Award for Rolling Out New Vegan Doughnuts

Metro Manila — Pastry powerhouse Dunkin’ Philippines has scored a Progressive Company Award, courtesy of PETA Asia, for its sweet addition of three new vegan doughnuts to its menu—a move that PETA Asia has encouraged, as it will help spare hens and cows miserable lives in the egg and dairy industries. The delectable new animal-friendly flavors—mango tart, coconut crunch, and mango cereal and nuts—are available now at stores nationwide.

“Dunkin’s tasty new vegan doughnuts are a sweet deal for both compassionate consumers and animals,” says PETA Asia Senior Vice President Jason Baker. “PETA Asia is honoring Dunkin’ for helping to meet the skyrocketing demand for delicious vegan fare and glazing the way for other eateries to follow its lead.”

PETA Asia points out that cows form friendships over time, and hens begin to teach calls to their chicks before they even hatch. In the dairy industry, workers tear newborn calves away from their anguished mothers, often within a day of birth, and send the females to slaughter once their bodies break down from repeated pregnancies. In the egg industry, hens are crammed by the tens of thousands into filthy sheds without enough room to lift their wings and killed when their egg production slows.

Each person who goes vegan spares nearly 200 animals every year; reduces their own risk of suffering from cancer, heart disease, strokes, diabetes, and obesity; and dramatically shrinks their carbon footprint. PETA’s free vegan starter kit is filled with tips to help anyone looking to make the switch.

PETA Asia—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETAAsia.com or follow PETA Asia on XFacebook, or Instagram.
