Go Vegan to Protect Ya Neck: Wu-Tang Clan’s Masta Killa Stars in New PETA Campaign

 Cape Town — Legendary MC Masta Killa is flexing the freshest fit by hitting the streets in “lettuce camo” gear and flashing a fistful of leafy greens in a new PETA campaign repping plant-powered eating. In an accompanying video spot, the prolific rapper—who just dropped his highly anticipated solo album Balance last month—shares how vegan meals each day have kept his energy levels “through the roof.”

“Take care of your body and your body will take care of you,” says Masta Killa. “Your body is a living organism—you’re supposed to feed it life. Plants, vegetables, fruits, all of those things are still living, so you’re putting life into life.”

The longtime vegan—one of several Wu-Tang Clan members who’ve sworn off meat, eggs, and dairy—notes that with an abundance of animal-friendly cuisine available from coast to coast, it’s never been easier to make the switch. “Everywhere I go now, there’s a good vegan meal somewhere—and it’s more healthy, so there’s really no excuse,” Masta Killa says.

PETA points out that cows develop friendships over time, chickens form complex social structures, and pigs recognize their own names—but in today’s meat, egg, and dairy industries, the animals are raised in filthy, crowded conditions, trucked to slaughterhouses through all weather extremes, and violently killed. In addition to sparing nearly 200 animals every year, each person who goes vegan also bolsters their own health, as vegans are less likely to suffer from cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and obesity.

“I think you can do it,” Masta Killa concludes. “I’m living proof that you can.”

Masta Killa is part of a long list of celebrities—including RZA, Travis Barker, P!nk, Jhené Aiko, Jermaine Dupri, Noah Cyrus, T-Pain, and Paul McCartney—who have teamed up with PETA to promote kindness to animals.
