PETA Statement re Death of Racehorse “My Universe” in Japan

The sudden collapse and death of My Universe during the Takarazuka Kinen highlights how horse racing pushes animals beyond their physical limits—sometimes with fatal consequences. Driven to run for profit and entertainment, horses face a constant risk of injury, collapse, and death, and many are discarded when no longer profitable.
Horses are sensitive, intelligent beings—not commodities for sport. Their lives should never be gambled for entertainment.
