Media Officer and Social Media Coordinator
Position Objectives:
- To develop and maintain relationships with media professionals and establish an approach for pitching stories to them
- To find opportunities to promote animal rights through television, radio, and print outlets and the organization’s social media platforms
- To generate media coverage for the organization’s activities, including by acting as a spokesperson and coordinating news releases and media statements
- To manage the complex and diverse online marketing projects that promote the organization’s mission

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
- Develop and work with colleagues to create regional and country-specific marketing and media plans and ideas to reach audiences for various celebrity campaigns, video launches, investigations, news conferences, and news releases
- Identify, contact, and develop professional relationships with appropriate media outlets and journalists for coverage of issues and campaigns
- Maintain and update a media database
- Prepare news releases and media statements and, if needed, have them translated and make follow-up calls to media outlets
- Track and analyze the results of each media pitch and adjust efforts accordingly
- Develop and execute strategies to help the organization’s web content reach targeted audiences
- Help generate content for the organization’s digital assets, including website articles, online advocacy and pledges, and social media platforms
- Create and distribute e-mail content to the organization’s members and supporters
- Act as a spokesperson and give interviews when required
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications:
- Thorough commitment to and extensive knowledge of animal rights issues and campaigns
- Demonstrated exceptional communication skills and written and oral skills in English
- Some knowledge of or experience with media relations preferred
- Extensive experience managing social media pages with proven success in fostering engagement
- Excellent research skills
- A sense of urgency and an ability to take initiative and follow through
- Proven ability to work well under pressure and within tight deadlines
- Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional manner
- Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Must be vegan
- Supportive position with respect to PETA’s philosophy and the ability to advocate for the group’s positions on issues in a professional manner
