PHOTO: Animals Unite! Giant ‘Chicken’ to Lead Vegan Whale Meat Giveaway
Tokyo — Following the controversial introduction of vending machines that sell whale meat across Tokyo, a group of PETA supporters dressed as a chicken, a pig, and a cow bearing signs that read, “Every Animal Is Someone. Go Vegan,” gave away vegan whale meat in front of one of the machines to remind passersby that all animals are thinking, feeling beings who don’t want to be killed and served on a plate.
“Chickens, pigs, cows, and whales may not look similar, but they’re all smart, sensitive, social animals who love their families and want to be left in peace,” says PETA Senior Vice President Jason Baker. “Instead of adding another animal species to their diets, PETA urges everyone not to support the cruel meat industry and to please, go vegan.”
In the meat industry, chickens, pigs, and cows spend their entire lives crammed into filthy sheds or on feedlots and are routinely subjected to mutilations, including debeaking, teeth-clipping, and tail-docking, without any pain relief. Many won’t glimpse sunlight or breathe fresh air until they’re loaded onto trucks bound for slaughterhouses, where their throats are slit, often while they’re still conscious. Hunters fire a cannon to impale whales with grenade-tipped harpoons, which explode inside them, and often use multiple harpoons to kill one animal.

PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” – opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETAAsia.com or follow the group on TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, X(formerly Twitter), Facebook, or Threads.
