Monde Nissin Corporation Earns PETA’s Praise for Early Adoption of New Pro-Animal Pledge

Makati — Locally based Monde Nissin Corporation is receiving kudos from PETA today for being among the first brands to sign on to a revolutionary new program aimed at helping shoppers identify food and beverage companies that don’t test on animals.

PETA US’ “Eat Without Experiments” website features a database of companies categorized by their policies on animal experimentation—from those that test on animals to those that have signed the organization’s statement of assurance guaranteeing that they don’t test on animals and never will unless explicitly required by law, the latter of which now includes Monde Nissin Corporation.

Visitors to the website can also send e-mails and take action urging other food and beverage makers to stop tormenting and killing animals in tests to make dubious marketing claims about their products’ effects on human health.

Henry Soesanto, CEO of Monde Nissin Corporation, says “We have a clear policy not to test any of our products on animals, unless we are legally required to do so. We are proud to support PETA’s Eat Without Experiments initiative and hope other companies will join us”.

“Kudos to Monde Nissin Corporation for leading the way on this powerful initiative to get animal experimentation out of the food and beverage industry,” says PETA Senior Vice President Jason Baker. “PETA calls on other food and beverage companies to join this growing movement to ditch cruel and antiquated animal tests and sign on to Eat Without Experiments.”

Regulatory agencies around the world require that studies on humans, not other animals, be used to verify health claims about food products. In the US for example, the. Food and Drug Administration’s regulations specify that “[animal] studies do not provide information from which scientific conclusions can be drawn regarding a relationship between the substance and disease in humans” because “[t]he physiology of animals is different than that of humans.”

Monde Nissin Corporation is one of several companies—including Follow Your Heart and Unilever—that have already signed the statement of assurance pledging never to test on animals.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETAAsia.com or follow the group on XFacebook, or Instagram.
