PETA Statement: Animals Burned Alive in Transport Tragedy
PETA Asia President Jason Baker has issued the following statement in response to reports that companion animals were killed in a transport accident in China:
To the companies involved, these animals may have been cargo. To their families, they were beloved companions. Every one of these animals was someone—not freight. Any company entrusted with animals’ lives should be held to the highest possible safety standards.
We hear far too often from grieving families whose animal companions were lost, injured, or killed after being entrusted to cargo companies. Never send your animal companion as cargo. Their life depends on it.
PETA urges authorities to allow guardians to safely transport their animal companions with them by train. No one should be forced to hand over a family member to a cargo company, and no animal should ever be left behind.
