PETA Statement re Egyptian Billionaire Naguib Sawiris Raising Giza Pyramid Investment

PETA Asia President Jason Baker has issued the following statement in response to Egyptian billionaire Naguib Sawiris raising the investment in the Giza Plateau redevelopment project to $40.6 million:

This massive investment in the Giza Plateau must not perpetuate a system that subjects horses and camels to relentless suffering, including being beaten, overworked, and discarded in piles like trash when their bodies give out. PETA urges that a portion of the funding be directed to buy out all horse and camel owners and permanently remove these animals from the site, which is the only meaningful way to end the abuse that has been consistently documented.

Transforming Giza into a world-class destination must include eliminating animal exploitation entirely and replacing it with humane, modern options for visitors.

PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment” – points out that Every Animal Is Someone. For more information, please visit PETAAsia.com or follow PETA Asia on XFacebook, or Instagram.
