Human Body Parts Dangle From Animal Supermodels’ Necks in Hard-Hitting Anti-Fur Spot Donated to PETA Asia

Hong Kong – In the fashion world depicted in the new computer-animated video from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Asia, the statuesque models draped in the trendiest couture are foxes and the designer is a seal – and the designs include a coat made from dozens of human arms. And just like in real life, the skins used for clothing come from a factory farm – in this case, a human-skin farm, where bloodied hooks dangle from the ceiling, a skinned corpse lies chained to the wall and a young girl huddles, crying, in the corner of her cage. “Every year, human beings kill millions of other animals for fleeting fashion”, concludes the video. “Take off your fur. Put on your humanity.” The video, which has been viewed by more than 1 million people already, was produced by Ogilvy & Mather.
“PETA’s new video shows the bloody truth – that when you wear fur, you’re wearing the skin of an abused animal who did not want to die”, says PETA Asia Vice President Jason Baker. “Wearing fur shows ignorance, arrogance and the lack of imagination to put yourself in someone else’s place. Everyone who is troubled by our video can help stop this suffering simply by refusing to buy fur and other animal skins.”
As shown in the video, animals on fur farms – such as rabbits, foxes, raccoon dogs, minks and even cats and dogs – spend their entire lives in cramped, filthy cages. Many experience severe psychological distress and may resort to self-mutilation. These animals are often poisoned or anally electrocuted or have their necks broken, and many are skinned alive. Animals trapped for fur endure excruciating pain before their chests are stamped on or their necks are broken by trappers. And in Canada, seal pups are shot or have their heads bashed in while other babies watch in fear and try in vain to escape.
Chinese celebrities Gigi Leung, Mavis Fan, Tian Yuan, Valen Hsu and Chet Lam are among the stars who have promoted the video on their social networking sites to help PETA spread awareness.
