PETA’S DANCING ‘CONDOM’ WILL PROMOTE SPAYING AND NEUTERING IN HO CHI MINH
Group Encourages Animal ‘Birth Control’ as the Best Solution to the Dog and Cat Overpopulation Crisis in Vietnam
What: Holding signs that read, “Dogs Can’t Use Condoms – Spay/Neuter”, a People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) member dressed as a giant condom will hand out leaflets on animal birth control at a busy location in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday. Their point? That the only way to get a handle on the cat and dog overpopulation crisis is always to have your animals spayed or neutered.
“Just one unspayed female cat and her offspring can produce a staggering 370,000 kittens in seven years, and one unspayed female dog and her puppies can result in the birth of 67,000 dogs in six years,” says PETA Senior Vice President of International Campaigns Jason Baker. “Dogs and cats can’t wear condoms, so PETA is calling on their guardians to take responsibility and spay or neuter their animal companions.”
PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way” – notes that countless unwanted cats and dogs enter Vietnam’s animal shelters every year, and many are euthanised because there aren’t enough good homes for them, while many more die from abuse or disease on the streets. The best conceivable solutions are always to spay or neuter animal companions and to adopt them from an animal shelter. Never buy animals from a breeder or a pet store.
