Photo Op: PETA ‘Aliens’ to Invade Shibuya Crossing With Urgent Plea: ‘Stop Eating Your Fellow Earthlings!’
What: On Tuesday, like a scene out of Men in Black, PETA’s bright green “aliens” will descend on Tokyo’s Shibuya Scramble Crossing with a warning for all Earthlings: “All Beings Have Feelings. Go Vegan!” Displaying signs both in English and Japanese aimed at locals and tourists alike, the extraterrestrial entourage will weave through the iconic intersection, reminding everyone that animal agriculture is a leading source of greenhouse gases that contribute to the climate catastrophe.
“The meat, egg, and dairy industries cause animals immense suffering and wreak havoc on the planet, but vegan food is deliciously out of this world and helps slash our carbon footprint,” says PETA President Jason Baker. “PETA urges everyone to make the kind choice for animals and the planet by going vegan.”
Where: Shibuya Scramble Crossing, 2-1 Dogenzaka, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo
When: Tuesday, October 27, 12 noon
Interviews will be available on-site and remotely.
Photos of the protest will be available here after 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
Why: The meat, egg, and dairy industries subject animals to painful mutilations, intensive confinement, and agonizing deaths. PETA points out that animal agriculture also generates planet-warming emissions, while vegan foods have a substantially smaller climate impact. Each person who goes vegan spares nearly 200 animals every year.
PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat or abuse in any other way” – points out that Every Animal Is Someone. For more information, please visit PETAAsia.com or follow PETA Asia on X, Facebook, or LinkedIn.
