Makati — Christmas is coming early for people in Makati’s bustling business district—on Thursday, a PETA supporter dressed as Mrs. Claus will hand out delicious free vegan barbecue to passersby at lunchtime. This heart-healthy version of the traditional holiday food will show Filipinos—for whom heart disease is the leading cause of death—that they can go vegan and enjoy their favorite treats at Christmas and beyond.

“Christmas is a time to spread kindness and peace, and refusing to eat smart, social pigs is the perfect way to start,” says PETA Senior Vice President Jason Baker. “PETA is encouraging everyone to bring animals comfort and joy this season by going vegan.”

Pigs dream when they sleep, recognize their own names, and show empathy for other pigs who are happy or distressed. Everyone who goes vegan saves the lives of nearly 200 animals a year; reduces their risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, and cancer; and dramatically shrinks their carbon footprint. PETA offers a free vegan starter kit to help people make the switch.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETAAsia.com or follow PETA Asia on XFacebook, or Instagram.
