Sydney – Pop star Sia has been crowned Australia’s 2014 Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity after a fierce month-long battle that recently ended at PETAAsiaPacific.com. Other popular contenders included swimsuit models Renee Somerfield, Ellie Gonsalves and Sheridyn Fisher; musicians John Butler, Xavier Rudd and Missy Higgins; actors Radha Mitchell, Sophie Monk, Isabel Lucas and Abbie Cornish and cricketer Peter Siddle.
Other vegetarian celebrities who were popular in the contest include former US President Bill Clinton, talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres and actors Portia de Rossi, Natalie Portman, Joaquin Phoenix, Russell Brand, Pamela Anderson, Tobey Maguire and Jared Leto.
Sia—a dedicated vegan who shares her home with several adopted dogs—topped the charts this year with her single “Chandelier”, which reached number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
“There’s no easier way to put passion in your life than by putting compassion in your diet”, says PETA Asia-Pacific Vice President Jason Baker. “Sia knows that going vegetarian is the best thing that you can do for animals, the Earth and your health. Plus, she’s living proof that being vegetarian helps keep you slim and sexy.”
Winners were selected based on several factors, including vote count. The complete list of vegetarian celebrities who were in the running in this year’s poll is available at PETAAsiaPacific.com.
