Angie Sadeghi Will Battle It Out to Take Home Top Honors—and a Tropical Vacation

Tehran, Iran — PETA U.S. is preparing to crown this year’s Sexiest Vegan Next Door—and Iranian internist and gastroenterologist Angie Sadeghi, now living in California, beat out hundreds of other entrants from across the U.S. to advance to the final round of 10 male and 10 female contestants.
A longtime vegetarian, Dr. Sadeghi adopted a vegan lifestyle three years ago to benefit her health and reduce animal suffering. She specializes in digestive issues and illnesses related to the stomach, liver, esophagus, and colon and refers many of her patients to a plant-based diet—helping about one person a month go vegan. She often gets patients off medication for cholesterol, diabetes, and blood pressure by helping them switch to a healthy, vegan diet.
“My favorite dish is ghormeh sabzi, which I prepare with mushrooms instead of red meat, and I love making tadig using basmati rice with coconut butter instead of dairy-based butter,” says Dr. Sadeghi. “Even khoresht karafs tastes better with mushrooms instead of meat. Of course, I grew up eating kabobs in Iran, but now I just eat the vegan version by using tofu marinated in saffron and turmeric. It’s delicious and much healthier.”
Visitors to PETA.org can now help PETA U.S. select the two lucky winners—one man and one woman—who will each receive a free vacation for two to Maui, Hawaii, courtesy of Humane Travel. Voting for the finalists to help PETA U.S. determine whom it should select as the winners ends at 12 noon EDT on June 21. PETA U.S. will select the winners based on several factors, including vote count. See the full contest details here. Winners will be notified and announced on June 28.
