‘TOFU NEVER CAUSED A PANDEMIC’ BILLBOARD RISES IN ASIA
PETA Urges People to Eat as if Everyone’s Life Depends on It, Because It Does: Meat Is Linked to Infectious Diseases
Kuala Lumpur – As Malaysia’s lockdown rules begin to relax, PETA is launching a billboard campaign first hitting the capital featuring a block of tofu along with the message “Tofu Never Caused a Pandemic” to highlight the meat industry’s link to deadly zoonotic diseases like COVID-19 and urge people to keep everybody safe by going vegan.

“With hundreds of thousands of people worldwide dead from a disease linked to consuming animals, the time to ditch meat and switch to eating tofu and other versatile vegan foods is now,” says PETA Senior Vice President Jason Baker. “Together, we can help protect everybody from future pandemics by making a simple diet change.”
PETA’s latest investigation found that at wet markets across Asia – where live animals are sold alongside dead ones – the floors are covered with blood, urine, faeces, and offal. Previous influenza viruses such as swine flu and avian flu have originated in pigs and chickens – but never in vegan foods like tofu, which is cheaper than meat, is packed with protein, contains zero cholesterol, and can lower one’s risk of suffering from heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and many other life-threatening health issues.
PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” and which opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview – is also posting the ad on Federal Highway (facing eastbound traffic), Damansara-Puchong Expressway (facing northbound traffic), and New Klang Valley Expressway (facing northbound traffic).
