Beijing — Producer, musician, and actor Wu Xiubo and Vietnamese beauty queen Truong Thi May have won PETA Asia-Pacific’s Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity contest after a fierce battle on PETAAsiaPacific.com. Other popular contenders included model-turned–Hollywood hottie Maggie Q, Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan, and musicians Faye Wong, A-Ya, and Khalil Fong.
Wu is most widely known for his role in the movie Finding Mr. Right and in the TV series Before the Dawn, for which he has won many awards, including the Most Popular Actor and Best Actor titles at the China TV Golden Eagle Awards. He is currently one of the highest-paid actors in China and has also starred in Marriage & Lawyers (in which, at Wu’s insistence, his character, lawyer Chi Haidong, went vegetarian after he got divorced) and A Civic Yuppie in Countryside.
Truong represented Vietnam at the Miss Universe pageant in 2013. She previously took first runner-up at the Miss Vietnam Ethnicity 2007 and Miss Vietnam Photogenic 2006 pageants.
“There’s no easier way to put passion in your life than by putting compassion in your diet,” says PETA Asia Vice President Jason Baker. “Wu and Truong know that going vegetarian is the best thing that you can do for animals, the Earth, and your own health. Plus, they’re living proof that being vegetarian helps keep you slim and sexy.”
Winners were selected based on several factors, including vote count. The complete list of vegetarian celebrities who were in the running in this year’s contest is available at PETAAsiaPacific.com.
