Natural Rights for Nature in Bolivia?

Posted on by Ashley Fruno

Bolivia is set to pass new laws that grant all aspects of nature the same rights that are now afforded to humans. Eleven new laws are being considered. One of those laws—the one that PETA finds most interesting—addresses the right to life and to existence . What we’re hoping is that this law grants all animals the right to live as well!

These proposed laws are all part of a new influence on the legal system—that of the indigenous people and their belief that the Earth and the environment are the center of life and that humans are equal, not above, other beings. The current draft of this new law states, “[The Earth] is sacred, fertile and the source of life that feeds and cares for all living beings in her womb. She is in permanent balance, harmony and communication with the cosmos. She is comprised of all ecosystems and living beings, and their self-organization.”

We at PETA believe that the law is right on the mark. Respect for the Earth and her animals is something that we care deeply about, and making the decision to adopt a vegan diet is the best thing that you can do to help the environment.

If you’d like to help out the environment and all the animals on this planet, it’s as easy as adopting a vegan lifestyle today!
