Thanuja Ananthan Is an Angel for Animals

Posted on by PETA

Although Thanuja Ananthan, the reigning Miss Malaysia World, is certainly on top of the beauty pageant world, this true-life “angel for animals” took time off from her busy schedule to star in a pair of saucy new PETA ads to help promote spaying and neutering. The ads aim to solve the cat and dog overpopulation problem—not just in Malaysia, but all over the world!

Thanuja and her beloved rescue dog, Nala, struck a pose to raise awareness about the millions of animals languishing in the streets for a lack of good homes. Buying an animal from a breeder or a pet store contributes to the companion animal overpopulation crisis, and it steals a home from a cat or a dog at an animal shelter—an animal whose very life depends on getting a second chance.

“Please spay and neuter your pets. It’s not only essential for their good health but also saves thousands of lives,” says Thanuja. “Countless dogs (and cats) are killed in shelters all over because there are just not enough good homes for them. Every litter means more dogs and cats in shelters will die.”

Each year, animal shelters receive millions of dogs and cats—and nearly half of them must be euthanized for a lack of good homes. Many less fortunate animals never even make it to a safe haven; they are abandoned to fend for themselves on the streets, where they are often subjected to cruelty and suffer starvation, diseases, or injuries. By setting a good example and helping to spread the word about animal overpopulation, Thanuja demonstrates that her true beauty comes from within!
