What:       Wielding a “scythe” emblazoned with the message “Fur is Dead,” a black-robed PETA “grim reaper” will descend upon a local iROO store on Wednesday bearing a “bloodied fox” to condemn the brand for its disgraceful continued fur sales—including fur from foxes, rabbits, and raccoon dogs. The bone-chilling spectacle—which comes just days before Fur-Free Friday (November 29)—is the latest action in PETA’s campaign urging iROO to join the overwhelming majority of the fashion world by banning cruelly obtained fur.

“Every fur coat or piece of fur trim on iROO’s shelves comes from a once-living, feeling being who endured a terrifying and agonizing death,” says PETA Senior Vice President Jason Baker. “PETA is calling on iROO to cut ties with the hideously cruel fur trade, and urges kind consumers to shop elsewhere until it does.”

Where:           No. 343, Section 4, Zhongxiao East Road, Da’an District, Taipei City 106

Why:               Rabbits are highly social animals who live with their families in underground burrows, while foxes and raccoon dogs are devoted parents who work collaboratively to raise their young. PETA notes that most animals killed for fur are confined their entire lives to filthy, cramped wire cages, where they frantically pace back and forth, gnaw on the bars, and mutilate themselves out of extreme stress and frustration before they’re electrocuted, gassed, or poisoned. Wild animals caught in traps often suffer for days before trappers arrive to shoot, strangle, beat, or stomp them to death.

Hundreds of major companies and brands—including BCBG, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, and Versace—have stopped selling fur. Only a few holdouts remain.

PETA Asia—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETAAsia.com or follow PETA Asia on XFacebook, or Instagram.
