Kimberley Chen Is PETA’s 2024 Person of the Year

Taipei— For using her massive platform to advocate for animals at every opportunity, singer Kimberley Chen is People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Asia’s 2024 Person of the Year. The announcement coincides with the release of Chen’s latest campaign for PETA, an eye-popping ad featuring Chen sprawled on a bed of chili peppers alongside the slogan, “Spice Up Your Life! Go Vegan,” shot by renowned photographer Joshua Lin, with hair by expert stylist Zack Lee and makeup by the talented Molly Wang. Accompanying the colorful image is a video of the photo shoot and an interview with Chen in which the singer reveals that learning about cruelty in the egg and dairy industries inspired her to go from vegetarian to vegan.

This year alone, Chen also starred in another PETA campaign urging people to avoid marine parks—where dolphins and whales are crammed into concrete tanks and deprived of any semblance of a natural life—and wrote a letter to the Thai Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives . She also sent private letters to fashion brands urging them to drop fur and to companies about their vegan options.  Chen featured footage of animal exploitation provided by PETA entities in the music video for her new hit single, “Love Me More.”  To top it off, she even invited the press into the studio to offer a sneak preview while shooting her new ad.

“No one wants to be stolen from their family, caged, chained, or served up on someone’s plate,” says Chen. “I’m proud to stand with PETA Asia to urge empathy and kindness toward all animals, whether they have fur, feathers, fins, or scales.”

“From encouraging people to go vegan to speaking up for chained monkeys and captive dolphins, Kimberley Chen never misses a chance to advocate for animals,” says PETA Senior Vice President Jason Baker. “PETA Asia is delighted to honor Kimberley as our 2024 Person of the Year and urges everyone to follow her compassionate example by living vegan.”

Each person who goes vegan spares nearly 200 animals every year daily suffering and a terrifying death and improves their own health, since vegans are less prone to heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and strokes. According to the United Nations, a global shift toward vegan meals is necessary to combat the worst effects of the climate catastrophe.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETAAsia.com or follow the group on XFacebook, or Instagram.
