PETA Statement re 72 Tiger Deaths at Tiger Kingdom

PETA Asia President Jason Baker has issued  the following statement in response to the deaths of 72 tigers at Chiang Mai’s Tiger Kingdom:

Tiger Kingdom is a for-profit operation that exploits tigers for money. For years, PETA has sounded the alarm about its archaic facilities. Tigers spend their lives confined and chained, only to be dragged out to pose for photos, where many appear so unnaturally docile that it raises serious questions about whether they’re drugged. If tourists stayed away, these places would quickly become unprofitable, and tragedies like this would be far less likely to happen.

These tigers died the way they lived—in misery, confinement, and fear. It’s time for the Thai government to shut down these operations once and for all. PETA stands ready to help move the remaining animals to sanctuaries where they can finally run, explore, and behave like tigers for the first time.
