PHOTO OP: Inside PETA’s Free Spay‑and‑Neuter Clinic Bringing Hope to Hundreds of Cats and Dogs in Tondo

This Saturday, PETA will transform a basketball court into a lifesaving field clinic—where veterinarians will perform free spay-and-neuter surgeries for cats and dogs whose guardians otherwise couldn’t afford them. Working with Biyaya Animal Care, PETA’s team will tackle the root cause of animal homelessness while offering a rare, behind‑the‑scenes look at a clinic in action. Media are invited to capture compelling visuals of the clinic and community members stepping up for animals.

When:      Saturday, May 9, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Where:    LBK Covered Court, Brgy. 72, Tondo, Manila

Every year, countless cats and dogs are born into life on the streets, or are abandoned to fend for themselves, where they could be hit by cars, succumb to disease, or endure abuse. Others caught by dog pounds are euthanized because of a lack of willing adopters. Having animals spayed or neutered is the single most effective act anyone can take to help prevent the suffering caused by animal overpopulation. At the clinic, you’ll see cat and dog guardians working together with PETA to target the problem of overpopulation at the root. You can also expect to see:

  • Wagging tails, canine kisses, and plenty of purrs

In communities that have little access to veterinary services, there’s a huge demand for kapon and ligation. Excited cat and dog guardians line up early at each clinic, and there’s joy on everyone’s face when they are reunited with their animal companion after surgery.

  • Cats and dogs sleeping side by side

Dozens of cats and dogs recover together at any one time while being closely monitored and attended to by volunteers and their guardians.

  • The community benefits of spaying and neutering

Reducing companion animal overpopulation helps prevent rabies cases and minimizes the burden on the government of impounding animals.

Snacks and drinks will be available for media in attendance.

Numerous local government units have praised PETA’s work to address the companion animal overpopulation crisis. “Because of spay/neuter services, we’ve seen fewer stray animals, happier pet owners, and a more compassionate community,” writes Dr. Louie Encarnacion, City Veterinarian of Mandaluyong. “Your support means a great deal to us, and we truly value the work you do.”

“Their valuable initiative contributed significantly to the welfare of our community and addressed concerns related to the stray animal population,” says Quin Cruz, Barangay Chairman, Barangay Manggahan, Pasig City.

“PETA’s dedication, professionalism, and genuine compassion for animals has not gone unnoticed,” says Richard Anderson, Barangay Chairman, Brgy. 197, Pasay City. “The team’s tireless work reflects a deep commitment to public service, and we are incredibly grateful for the positive change they have helped foster.”
