Here’s Why Taipei Is the New Vegan Mecca of Asia

Named by PETA the Most Vegan-Friendly City in Asia, Taipei is home to a vibrant and rapidly expanding vegan scene. Plant-based restaurants are flourishing throughout the Taiwanese capital, and vegan options have been multiplying over the last few years. Taipei now features over 50 vegan restaurants, so you can try multiple types of vegan food while you’re exploring the city. Here are a few of our favorite places to dine:

About Animals

About Animals is a small restaurant with an awesome, chill vibe. It serves up delicious vegan burgers, sandwiches, and beers. Wasabi burger with wasabi mayo, anyone?

This vegan restaurant serves primarily Italian cuisine, such as pizza and pasta, along with quesadillas, creamy mac ‘n’ cheese, burgers, and ratatouille.

Kaya Kaya Café

You’ll find everything from fresh salads, sandwiches, and wraps to thin-crust pizza, risotto, and pasta at Kaya Kaya Café. The restaurant is also known for its delicious desserts, such as its red bean brownie cake, cashew key lime cheesecake, house-made coconut sorbet with caramelized pineapple, and banana flaxseed muffins.

This vibrant little vegan bakery is one of the best in Taipei, serving up gorgeous macaroons, tarts, a variety of biscuits, and a cruelty-free version of Taiwan’s famous pineapple cake.
