Statement: Death of a Zookeeper at Safari World in Bangkok

PETA Senior Vice President Jason Baker has made the following statement regarding the tragic incident at Bangkok’s Safari World.

The tragic death of a zookeeper at Safari World in Bangkok should serve as a wake-up call. It’s time we stop treating animals as exhibits and start treating them as fellow beings who deserve freedom and respect.

This is not an isolated incident—it reflects a troubling pattern seen in zoos around the world. Zoos confine wild animals in unnatural conditions, suppressing their instincts and leading to both psychological suffering and unpredictable behaviour that puts animals and people at risk.

Safari World must relocate the lions, who have done nothing wrong other than exhibit their natural behaviours, to a sanctuary. PETA always stands ready and willing to assist in facilitating the transfer of animals to sanctuaries and urges everyone to avoid facilities that keep living, feeling beings captive.

PETA Asia—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment”—points out that Every Animal is Someone. For more information, please visit PETAAsia.com or follow PETA Asia on XFacebook, or Instagram.
