VIDEO: Watch Emaciated Dog’s Transformation Into Happy, Energetic Pup After PETA’s Rescue

Metro Manila — When a kind person in Naic, Cavite, alerted PETA to Yuri’s plight, the young stray dog was practically a walking skeleton, suffering from ehrlichiosis—a tick-borne infectious disease—and with severe intestinal parasites. But as a just-released PETA video shows, in only a few weeks, Yuri transformed from starving to sprightly—and now he’s thriving with love and attention from his adoptive family.

PETA provided Yuri with much-needed veterinary care, neutered and vaccinated him, and placed him in a loving home. This handsome dog, who’s 1 or 2 years old, loves playing with other dogs and soaking up human affection.

“Yuri is one of the lucky ones, but thousands of dogs like him are still suffering on the streets without food, clean water, or a safe home,” says PETA Senior Cruelty Case Worker Ross Rowalle. “PETA is calling on everyone to do their part by being kind to stray animals, never buying dogs or cats from breeders, and having their own animal companions spayed or neutered.”

PETA’s Ampon Alaga program, which offers free “kapon” and ligation services for animals with indigent guardians, promotes the adoption of native dogs and cats, rescues animals in need like Yuri, and works to address the companion animal overpopulation crisis.

Anyone with space in their heart and home and the financial resources to care for an animal can apply to adopt a dog or a cat through Ampon Alaga on Facebook or Instagram.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETAAsia.com or follow the group on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
