Media Invite: Giant ‘Goats’ to Expose Cruelty Behind Paul Smith Mohair in International Protest Launch

Media Invite: Giant ‘Goats’ to Expose Cruelty Behind Paul Smith Mohair in International Protest Launch

What:             On the heels of a damning new PETA investigation into mohair operations in Lesotho and South Africa—including shearing sheds linked to luxury brand Paul Smith—the first-ever protest against Paul Smith will take place at its Ginza store on Thursday. A group of PETA supporters wearing giant “goat” heads will gather to warn shoppers about the cruelty on display inside. Bearing signs reading, “Paul Smith Tortures Goats for Mohair”, the animal allies will call on passersby to wear vegan this winter/holiday and beyond.

PETA’s investigation revealed workers dragging goats by their horns, legs, and tails; hitting them with brooms and poles; pinning them to the ground while they screamed in terror; and shearing them so roughly that some were left with bleeding wounds. The investigation also highlights major Japanese retailers Urban Research and Baycrews, which continue to sell mohair products sourced from this cruel industry.

“Goats are clever animals who form strong bonds with their babies, and they don’t want to be pinned down and sliced to pieces for a pair of pants,” says PETA President Jason Baker. “PETA urges everyone to keep mohair and all other animals’ body parts out of their closets and choose only vegan materials.”
