Media Invite: Naked PETA Animal Activists to Expose Truth Behind BEAMS Angora Cruelty
What: Following the release of new obtained by PETA—which shows workers on angora wool farms tightly binding rabbits’ legs and ripping out their hair by the fistful as the animals scream in pain and terror—a group of PETA supporters will gather outside Women’s Harajuku store to expose the naked truth about angora. Wearing bunny ears and a banner reading “the naked truth: angora hurts”, the nearly nude animal allies will urge passersby to say “no” to products made from angora wool and other animals’ body parts.
“On angora farms, rabbits are tormented, terrorized, and killed so their fur can be made into sweaters and scarves,” says PETA President Jason Baker. “PETA urges everyone to choose soft and luxurious vegan clothing this winter and beyond and leave rabbits in peace.”
The footage, obtained from eight angora rabbit factory farms in China—where most of the world’s angora is sourced and where there are no regulations that govern how animals are treated and no penalties for abusing animals on farms—shows workers pulling rabbits out of cramped, filthy cages by their ears and throwing them into buckets carried to the shearing area. The conditions left rabbits susceptible to illness, with some found lying motionless inside cages. Rabbits who survive these extremely stressful conditions are typically killed after two to five years.
