‘Santa’ to Dump Coal at H&M’s Doorstep Over Down Sales on Major Shopping Day

What:             H&M is on Santa’s naughty list this year for its support of the cruel down industry, so on Friday—one of the biggest shopping days in the world—a PETA supporter dressed as Santa Claus will deliver coal (what bad boys and girls receive on Christmas) to the H&M store downtown. This “Santa” will urge H&M to cut ties with the down industry, which cuts the feet off live, struggling birds and hacks at their necks with axes before their feathers are stuffed into jackets.

A PETA Asia investigation into Vietnamese duck farms and slaughterhouses that sell “responsible” down for H&M showed ducks suffering from gaping and bloody wounds, languishing on lots strewn with feces and in dirty sheds, and being stabbed in the neck while still completely conscious. Many of the birds continued to move for more than a minute after workers cut their necks.

“H&M is on the naughty list for propping up an industry that exploits and slaughters vulnerable birds, who have every bit as much a desire to live their lives without fear and pain as we do,” says PETA Senior Vice President Jason Baker. “H&M already sells affordable and stylish vegan clothing, and PETA is urging the company to ditch all down in favor of these innovative options.”

When:             12:00 sharp. Thursday, November 24, 2023
