PETA Honors Thai Navy for Rescuing Cats From Sinking Ship

Posted on by PETA

A Hero to Animals Award is on its way from PETA to the Thai Navy after sailors rescued four cats from a burning, sinking ship in the Andaman Sea this week. Photos from the rescue show a cat clinging to a sailor’s back as his crewmates pull them to safety.

The cats are now warm and dry, enjoying a meal and a cuddle at their rescuers’ command post on the island of Koh Lipe.

PETA has also offered to cover the costs of spaying or neutering the cats.

You Can Help Cats Like the Thai Navy, Too

If you see any animal in danger, please do whatever it takes to get them to safety! Remember never to allow your cats to roam unattended. They can have a rich and stimulating life indoors. If you have the time, resources, and love to bring an animal into your home, adopt from a local shelter rather than buying from pet stores or breeders—and be sure to help stop the influx of unwanted animals by having cats and dogs spayed or neutered.
