The nominees haven’t been posted long, but Hong Kong singer-songwriter Khalil Fong and queen of pop Faye Wong have taken the lead over other Asian contenders in PETA Asia’s annual Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity contest. Singer-songwriter Sia Furler is ahead of the others for the Australian contest. Other celebrities leading the pack include model-turned–Hollywood hottie Maggie Q; Indian film heavyweights and 3 Idiots stars Kareena Kapoor and R. Madhavan; pop singer Louis Cheung and his wife, Kay Tse; musicians Ash Grunwald, Missy Higgins and John Butler; actors Isabel Lucas, Gao Yuanyuan, and Abbie Cornish; and comedian Chris Lilley and surfer Dave Rastovich.

Why are more and more trendsetters choosing to go vegetarian? Healthy vegetarian diets can help reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, and strokes. Plus, meat-eaters are nine times more likely to be obese than vegans are, making a vegetarian diet the easiest way to stay slim and sexy.

The contest runs through 15 May. Votes are one of the factors that will help PETA decide the winner of our Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity contest. PETA will ultimately decide the winners based on four factors with equal consideration: number of votes received, the celebrity’s commitment to vegetarianism, PETA’s assessment of the celebrities’ attractiveness, and the media-friendliness of each celebrity’s personality.
