Recipe: Apple Crisp

I’m willing to bet that many people have heard of—and many have tried—a sweet apple crisp. I remember thinking as a child that it was just about the coolest thing that my mom ever made. The tartness of the apple with the spicy, woody taste of cinnamon always made for a memorable dessert.

1 dozen apples, peeled & sliced
4.5 g cinnamon
2.5 ml lemon juice
50 g vegan margarine (Nuttelex works best)
30 g flour
275 g brown sugar
230 g quick oatmeal
230 g mixed fruit (optional)

  • Put margarine, flour, brown sugar, and quick oatmeal into a bowl. Mix thoroughly.
  • Add in apples, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
  • Place in an 23 x 5 cm glass baking pan.  Dot with any remaining margarine.
  • Bake in oven at 375 degrees for 45-60 minutes (more time if needed). Serve hot.

Makes 8 servings.
