Save your pesos, because this weekend (November 12 and 13) is VegFest Pilipinas—the Philippines’ first-ever all-vegan weekend festival, taking place in Eastwood City, Quezon City. And admission is free!
Vegan businesses are popping up all over the Philippines, and the number of vegans in the country is skyrocketing. The Manila Vegans Facebook group has more than 8,000 members, and Filipino celebs such as Rafael Rosell are always instagraming vegan eats.
Whether you’re vegan, vegetarian, or curious about cruelty-free living, come along to VegFest Pilipinas for lip-smacking vegan food, eye-opening talks, and a whole lot of fun.
Here are 12 great reasons to be there this weekend:
We have yet to meet anyone who has a bad word to say about Green Bar’s food. If you know people who think vegan food is boring, drag them along to this stall to try the Hail Seitan sandwich—a punchy combo of “meaty” seitan, cashew cream, and vegan mayo crammed between focaccia bread.
And be sure to save some room for vegan doughnuts. Yes, you heard right: vegan doughnuts.
2. Vegan Cheese
OK, so we’ve all heard it before: “I could never go vegan—I love cheese too much!” Cheese seems to be the hardest food for the aspiring vegan to conquer—but never fear, In a Nutshell is here! We love this brand because its cheeses look delicious and taste even better. It will have cheese at VegFest this weekend to satisfy every craving.
Word on the street is that it will also be serving vegan hot dogs topped with its signature cheese, which is guaranteed to keep the crowds coming back for more. If this doesn’t excite you, we don’t know what will.
Delicielo does a mighty fine job of proving just how delicious vegan cupcakes taste. Did someone say vegan marshmallow fluff on a cupcake? We’ll take a dozen, please.
Greenery Kitchen’s food will bring back nostalgic memories of the traditional Filipino food you grew up with. Try the meaty vegan versions of Pinoy favorites, from dilis (anchovies) to caldereta (meat stew) and from isaw (chicken intestines) to sisig (chopped pork). You’ll be amazed.
We’re madly in love with all of Earth Desserts’ yummy treats, especially the fudgy brownies. They make the perfect gifts, too—if you can keep your hands off them, that is! But here’s the big question: Will we see the brand’s new blueberry walnut bread this weekend? There’s only one way to find out.
You can rest assured that no cows are harmed in the making of any of The Real Happy Cow’s products. We can’t wait to get our hands on the new vegan pimiento cream cheese. The brand will also be serving up its smashing “pork belly” poutine—combining its famous vegchon with fries, a generous amount of hot sauce, and its signature smoky “cheese” sauce and vegan mayo. We’re drooling just thinking about it.
Not only are Jertie’s Kitchen’s treats vegan, they’re also gluten-free. Its pastries are super-cute, and we can’t get over how heavenly the chocolate cake tastes. There will be something for everyone at its stall this weekend, so be sure to stop by.
After stuffing your mouth full of vegan food, you’ll, of course, need something to quench your thirst—and what better way than with an ice-cold vegan chocolate milk by The Cashew Milk Co.? Bottoms up!
With temperatures reaching over 30 degrees this weekend, you’ll need to get your hands on Super Scoops, the best vegan ice cream in the country. We can’t think of a better treat to help you cool down.
10. Vegan Merchandise
Vegan clothes are easier to come by than ever before, and they’re more fashionable, too. We can’t wait to get our hands on some vegan tees—kale, yeah!
11. Vegan Makeup
Cruelty-free cosmetics are developed without being tested on animals, while vegan makeup doesn’t contain any animal-derived ingredients. We’re really excited to check out 4thDec’s all-vegan, cruelty-free collection. From beeswax-free lip balms to carmine-free eye shadows, this company has got it all.
12. Vegan Talks
Be sure to stick around to listen to eye-opening talks on a variety of vegan issues. It will be a great opportunity to ask questions about a vegan lifestyle and get involved in discussions.
